  • In 1931 she took her initial vows as a Nun.
  • Between 1931 and 1948 she taught in Calcutta at St. Mary's High School.
  • In 1948 she received permission to leave the convent she was working at to help the poor and needy in India.
  • In 1950 she received permission from the Holy See to start her own order "The Missionaries of Charity".
  • In 1965 the society became an international Religious Family by a decree of Pope Paul VI.
  • In the 1970's she was internationally famed as a humanitarian and advocate for the poor ad helpless.
  • In 1979 she won the Noble Peace Price and India's highest civilian honor the Bharat Ratna.
